Robotics at Regionals

The CVCA Royal Technic Robotics Team competed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, last week. Composed of 43 students in grades 6-12, the team competed with a robot they designed, built, and programmed. The team competed in various categories, including robot driving, a marketing presentation, an exhibit presentation, spirit and sportsmanship, and an engineering notebook. Combined, these categories make up the overall BEST Award. CVCA placed second for the BEST Award.

The driving competition was neck and neck in the finals, with CVCA placing second after four grueling rounds. Drivers, Alex Cook (Senior), David Wedding (Sophomore), Jackson Gomez (Sophomore), Dawson Paulk (Sophomore), and Matthew Kolodey (8th Grade) did an amazing job, assisted by Elisabeth Govia (Senior), who spotted for the team.

The Marketing team of Elisabeth Govia (Senior), Jude Armstrong (Junior), Daniel Kolodey (Sophomore), Addison Jenison (Sophomore), Trinity Harpley (Sophomore), Liam Amundsen (Freshman), Will Currall (8th Grade), and Landon Amundsen (7th Grade) placed first.

Also placing first, the Team Exhibit team of Alex Cook (Senior), Evelyn Watson (Sophomore), and Charlotte Watson (6th Grade) did an amazing job. They presented in an exhibit built by Cadence Tan (Senior), Cianna Williams (Senior), Daniel Pilipchuk (Senior), Kathryn Shure (Senior), Josh Jeffries (Junior), Aniella Kubis (Junior), Addison Jenison (Sophomore), Trinity Harpley (Sophomore), Cayla Tan (Freshman), Jason Duong (8th Grade), Marianna Pilipchuk (6th Grade) and Zander Prior (6th Grade).

During the robotics season, CVCA met with an astronaut and a materials specialist from NASA who taught the students about amazing new materials used for projects on Earth and in space. The team studied the moon’s surface and developed a robot that could complete tasks and keep astronauts safer on the surface of the moon. The knowledge that the men from NASA shared helped the team achieve their goals.
