SCHOOL-WIDE ANNOUNCEMENTS

First Week Schedule

The first week of school will consist of five 8-period days. We will have a late start (9:22 a.m.) on Wednesday, August 14 followed by periods 1-8. There will be no Chapel or House meetings on Thursday. Block periods for Wednesday/Thursday and House/Chapel gatherings will start the second week of school.

STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK – DUE TOMORROW AUGUST 13

At least one parent and every student should read the Student/Parent Handbook. Signature pages need to be digitally signed and submitted by tomorrow,  August 13. Log in to Family Portal, then go to “School” (on left) and click on “Resource Documents.” You will find the Student/Parent Handbook and Signature Page under “Newsletter Archives” on the right side. Students were sent their signature page via email last week on August 6th. Per our policy: Students will not be permitted to attend classes beginning August 15 if this form remains unsigned. A student is able to return after they have read through the Handbook and signed electronically.

NEW Parent Coffees

Middle school parents and new high school parents are invited to enjoy a beverage on us and socialize at the Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck. This will be a great time to connect with other families in the CVCA community. We’ll be outside the Fieldhouse, rain location will be by the tennis courts.

  • 7th Grade – Tuesday, August 13 – 3:00-4:15 p.m.
  • 8th Grade – Thursday, August 15 – 1:30-3:00 p.m.
  • New High School Families – Thursday, August 22 – 7:30-9:00 a.m.

retreat week

ALL of our students will be celebrating the return to school with class retreats to Camp Carl. These are great times to grow as a class, have some fun, and welcome new students. For details about each retreat, go to the Middle School and High School sections of this Royal Weekly. Make sure your registration forms are completed today.

Traffic Flow Reminders

As we prepare for the start of school, there are several things to keep in mind as you navigate student drop-off and pick-up times and locations.

  • The Steels Corners bridge is closed going eastbound. It will reopen in October.
  • We are continuing to partner with Walsh on traffic delays. Walsh has pushed back the start of their school day by 25 minutes in an effort to reduce traffic.
  • Be patient as we all work to manage traffic flow. It will improve over the next couple of weeks as everyone falls into a routine.
  • Due to the heavy traffic at the Middle School Entrance, middle school students may also utilize the new high school drop off location and enter through the Athletics side entrance.
  • Keep in mind the following drop-off and pick-up instructions, and note that the Rasnick Center is not a drop-off or pick up location:

Before School:
  • Students may arrive at school as early as 7:15 a.m. ALL students arriving between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. should use the Royals Fieldhouse entrance. No other doors will be open before 7:30 a.m.
  • If at all possible, students should arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. and proceed directly to their first class of the day. All entrances are open to students at 7:30 a.m.
  • Students should be dropped off at the following doors between 7:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m.: Learning Commons, New Entrance, or Middle School Entrance.
  • Students who have parked their cars may enter at the Rasnick Center, but cars may not drop students off there.
  • Please do not drop off students at the main entrance after 7:25 a.m. as this space is reserved for school buses.
After School:
  • The same doors used for drop off may be used for pick up.
  • For the safety of all students, it is critical that families pick up students as close to the 2:50 p.m. dismissal time as possible. If a student does not have an extracurricular practice, meeting, or rehearsal, they need to leave campus.
  • In order for thorough cleaning to occur each afternoon, the building needs to be clear of students by 3:05 p.m.
  • Between 2:50 p.m. and 3:05 p.m. students should transition to their after-school practice or leave campus immediately at 2:50 p.m.
  • General supervision will not be provided after 2:50 p.m. Students involved in athletics, fine arts, and other after-school activities are under the supervision of coaches, advisors, etc.

Requesting Course Changes

If you need to request a course change or have a problem with your schedule, please contact your guidance counselor. No class additions or drops are permitted after Friday, August 23, 2024. (Due to class balancing concerns, we cannot honor requests to change class periods – but remain in the same course – or change study halls/PRT.)
