If you have not ordered your CVCA polos from the online store, or have not purchased the kilt or two-kick pleat skirt (in tan-khaki or blue plaid) from Schoolbelles, we strongly suggest you do that now!

Please note that skirt styles other than those provided through Schoolbelles are not part of the new Standards.

STANDARDS FOR STUDENT APPEARANCE FOR 2010-11

The 2010-2011 school year will mark the full implementation of our new Student Appearance Standards.

The following is a brief overview:

• Ladies’ skirts in the CVCA plaid and solid tan-khaki are available in both a kilt and box pleat, purchased through Schoolbelles (see below).

• All monogrammed polos (royal, black, white, pink, and light blue) and outer wear black fleece, vest and sweater, are purchased from our store website  www.cvcastore.com.

• T-shirts underneath uniform shirts are to be black or white.

• Socks and tights will be black, white, or tan-khaki. Clear hosiery can be worn as well.

• Shoes may be black, gray, brown, two-tone brown, leather, or leather-like.

• We are reinforcing that khaki-tan slacks and walking shorts should be uniform style by making the following clarification: no patch pockets and no stitching that gives the appearance of patch pockets.

It is truly our prayer that our dress standards will help eliminate distractions and promote unity, neatness, and modesty in accordance with our mission of Educating and Cultivating Servants for Christ at CVCA.

Note that items not listed in our standards may not be worn, with the exception of a reasonable amount of business-attire jewelry.  Scarves, sashes, bandannas, and hats are not permitted.

STUDENT APPEARANCE STANDARDS 

• Basic student apparel consists of a CVCA monogrammed polo and tan-khaki slacks, skirts, or shorts. Additionally, a new plaid skirt in two styles is available for girls.  Students are encouraged to tuck polos in but are permitted to wear them untucked if neatness is maintained.
   
• Regarding student appearance in addition to clothing, hair is to be worn out of the face.  Extreme hair fashions, including but not limited to close scalp shavings, extreme grooving, unnatural coloring, and spiking are not permitted. 

• Male students are to keep their hair trimmed to cover no more than a third of the ear, and to avoid touching their collar when standing in a normal upright position.  Male students must also be clean-shaven during school hours and for certain appropriate occasions.

• Given our understanding of modesty and humility, visible pierced body parts other than ears are not in code.  Male students are not permitted to wear earrings on campus or at any CVCA event off campus.  Tattoos are not to be visible at any time.

• Remember also that beyond school hours, the principle of modesty is always in effect for all CVCA events on or off campus.  Anything which draws attentions to oneself serves more to distract from this principle rather than to promote it.

Student appearance should enhance the spiritual, social, and academic atmosphere at CVCA. We desire to do all things to the glory of our Lord (I Cor. 10:31). We endeavor to provide student appearance standards that are reasonable and reflect our three guiding principles of modesty, neatness, and unity. It is our intention that student apparel be easy for students to wear, easy for parents to purchase, and easy for CVCA to supervise.

The following standards were set as the combined effort of many people. The Student Appearance Committee interviewed students, parents, administrators, teachers, staff members, and professionals in other private schools and implemented many of their suggestions. Success with these standards will require the support of everyone in the CVCA community. It is our hope that our student appearance standards will assist us in fulfilling our mission: to educate and cultivate servants for Christ.

Parents, please note that our apparel has been prayerfully selected to eliminate distractions and promote learning. We understand that God has given parents the primary responsibility for the nurture and admonition of their children. The investment that you have made in teaching your children about appropriate dress will be reinforced at CVCA.

While we have taken care to set precise standards, no list of standards can cover every possibility. We realize that whenever appearance standards are implemented, there will be unforeseen circumstances. In light of this, the administration will make the final decision concerning student appearance compliance should specific issues arise.
